With the year reaching its close and a new year up ahead, Pele Yoetz Center marks another round of success for its flagship project Al Pi Darko, which kept going full-force even when the world shut down in the midst of the coronavirus crisis.

During this challenging period, and even as government restrictions and lockdowns compelled schools and institutions around the country to close, Al Pi Darko remained active and continued upholding its mission. “When everyone was home, and schools and businesses shut their doors, our tutors from Al Pi Darko did not forget their sacred roles and remained in daily contact with their mentees—reviewing learning material with them and encouraging them through warm conversation to keep their spirits up during the downtimes,” an Al Pi Darko spokesperson shares.

Later on, when the Ministry of Health published quarantine regulations, Al Pi Darko’s tutors took initiative to ensure that progress wouldn’t be lost. “When kids were in quarantine, our tutors made it their special priority to reach out to them even more than usual. In some cases, they brought learning materials, prizes and treats to the children’s houses, reminding them how deeply they care.”

After a year crowned with academic and spiritual success, Al Pi Darko is preparing for the new year, with the hope that schools and life will return to normalcy. Student engaged in last year’s program underwent comprehensive evaluations, which indicated that a significant percentage of children who benefited from the program throughout the past year narrowed or closed academic gaps entirely and are now ready and able to integrate fully into their classrooms without remedial or supplementary assistance. The remaining children will maintain their learning schedules with their tutors, and a new group of students shall be incorporated into the project, as well.

Simultaneously, following ever-rising demands by parents and school administrators, Al Pi Darko representatives are touring additional chadarim in order to identify students in need of professional assistance, with the goal of referring them to Al Pi Darko, helping them overcome their learning challenges and achieving success in and out of the classroom.
